Hayden to exceed Edwards for MotoGP starts

By Cycle CanadaPosted on

Tomorrow’s MotoGP Malaysian grand prix will see Nicky Hayden start his 197th premier-class race. That will be one more than Colin Edwards, the current record holder for 500cc/MotoGP starts by an American rider.

“Sepang is an awesome circuit,” Hayden said, “long, wide, with some really interesting sections. I like it a lot but the weather always plays a big part and it can vary dramatically from one session to another. But it’s a great track and an interesting challenge for us.”

It appears Colin Edwards has ridden his last MotoGP race. Hayden, however, is under contract until the end of 2015, so his record for starts by an American should continue to grow.
