Ducati’s “unique cooperation with AMG Mercedes,” announced at the LA Motor Show in 2010, has spawned its first co-branded motorcycle, the 2012 Ducati Diavel AMG Special Edition. According to Ducati, the special edition Diavel is “a tribute to the AMG luxury-sport brand and is intended for passionate connoisseurs of technology, engineering detail and exclusive style.” Based on the current higher spec Carbon model, the new luxury Diavel is mechanically identical to the 2011 motorcycle, but features the 5-spoke wheel styling of AMG cars, carbon fibre lateral radiator grills with aluminium trim, a sport exhaust system with AMG engraved end-caps, and an Alcantara upholstered, horizontally ribbed seat. Ducati’s desmodromic cam-timing is set on each machine by hand and authenticated with the technician’s name engraved on the left-side engine casing. And to further define its special edition status, each motorcycle will also have the de rigueur special edition numbered plaque on the fuel tank. Topping it all off is an “AMG” laser-branded fuel tank with an AMG inspired white stripe, to match the bike’s white trellis frame.
Ducati has also designed a special matching leather jacket and helmet for the AMG Diavel and says both motorcycle and apparel will be available in early 2012, with orders opening to coincide with the motorcycle’s first public showing at the 64th International Motor Show in Frankfurt, Germany, September 15th to 25th. Pricing and Canadian availability is yet to be announced.
