Double Win for Biaggi at Portimao

By Cycle CanadaPosted on

Max Biaggi has firmly established himself as a contender for this year’s World Superbike crown after riding his Aprilia Alitalia Racing RSV-4 to victory in both races during the series’ second round at Portimao today. Biaggi passed Alstare Suzuki’s Leon Haslam with six laps remaining to eke out a win in race 1.  The veteran Italian raceer then waited until the penultimate lap of the second race to once again steal the win, this time  by an even narrower margin, from Haslam.

Race one also saw Ten Kate Honda’s Jonathan Rae reach the podium, nearly 7 seconds adrift of the winner, while fellow Briton Cal Crutchlow rode his Yamaha YZF RI to third place, 0.658 seconds off the pace, in race two.

Biaggi’s first double victory ever in World Superbike moves him to second position in the overall standings, 16 points back of Haslam who now has 4 consecutive top two finishes.
