Yamaha Reveals the XT1200Z Super Ténéré

By Cycle CanadaPosted on

Yamaha has finally revealed the XT1200Z Super Ténéré, a 1199 cc adventure tourer that the Japanese manufacturer hopes will compete with the BMW R1200 GS.

Many specs, including peak power and torque, have yet to be released, but we do now know that a parallel twin, 270 degree cranked mill delivers power via shaft drive to a tubeless aluminum wheel suspended by a finger adjustable monoshock. Upside down forks are also fully adjustable and brakes come in the form of intelligent linked ABS. The Super Ténéré also features Yamaha’s proprietary chip controlled throttle system with 3-stage traction control, plus Yamaha’s switchable D-mode engine mapping. The seat height is adjustable from 835mm to 880mm and this ‘first edition’ bike includes an adventure package consisting of aluminum side cases, skid plate, headlight protecter and a first edition sticker.

For now the XT1200Z Super Ténéré is only available in Europe through online reservation. Bryan Hudgen, spokesperson for Yamaha Canada told us that they’re still researching whether or not it’s worth their while to bring it here. So if you want to buy one, let them know.
