Airbags for KTM jacket

By Steve ThorntonPosted on

KTM has gotten into the airbag game with a new line of clothing by Alpinestars. The Elemental GTX Tech-Air jacket can be fitted (it’s optional) with a Tech-Air airbag that KTM says is “the world’s first self-contained airbag system, covering the back, chest, shoulders, and kidneys.” There are no cables or wires to attach to the bike.

Sensors in the system detect an impact in 30 to 60 milliseconds, says KTM, and “fully inflate the airbag in under 25 milliseconds.”

The jacket and pants are made of three-layer Gore-Tex membranes and are breathable and wind and waterproof. They’re built to allow comfortable freedom of movement and have a preformed knee structure and height-adjustable protectors.

Elemental GTX Tech-Air gloves also feature a waterproof Gore-Tex membrane, have protectors on the fingers, and reinforcement in the palm area.
