TOP TUNERS TO ATTEND YAMAHA TECH GP ON JULY 24

Thursday, July 19 (Toronto, ON) – On Tuesday, July 24, the top Yamaha technicians in Canada will compete in the 2018 Canadian Technician Grand Prix, an intense contest that will challenge the mechanical, electronic and customer service skills of Canada’s best Yamaha dealer service staff.

At the conclusion of the event, one talented employee will be awarded the opportunity to represent Yamaha Motor Canada at the 2018 World’s Technician Grand Prix in Japan. Held every two years, the Yamaha Tech GP pits the best Yamaha technicians in the world against each other in head-to-head competition.

Who will come out on top and wave the Canadian flag in Japan? Eight technicians from five provinces are vying for the chance, including: Alan Piuze, SM Sport (Quebec City, QC); Mark Schroeder, Quad Expert (Hammond, ON); Scott Szollos, Snow City Cycle & Marine (Toronto, ON); Quang Le, Proline Motorsports & Marine (Saskatoon, SK); Rob Daye, Riverside Motorsports (St. Albert, AB); Brett Hart, Blackfoot Motorsports (Calgary, AB); Patrick Gibson, Cycle Works Motorsports (Red Deer, AB); and Xin “Alex” Ji, GA Checkpoint (Port Moody, BC).

The Canadian final will be held at Yamaha Motor Canada’s head office in Toronto on July 24-25 and will comprise of three categories: a written examination, practical skills labs and customer service component. The diverse challenges reflect the balanced skillset that Yamaha technicians require in order to provide the ultimate overall service experience to Yamaha customers.

The global finale will take place at Yamaha Motor Corporation Ltd. headquarters in Iwata, Japan in October. The Canadian winner will be announced on Thursday, July 26, 2018.

The Yamaha Technician Grand Prix is organized as part of the Yamaha Motor Corporation Ltd.’s global service education plan. The goal of the Yamaha Tech GP is to raise awareness and increase competency of Yamaha’s technicians.
