CSBK: Szoke Dominates Race City Double Header

By Cycle CanadaPosted on

Defending Parts Canada Superbike champion Jordan Szoke continued his winning ways this weekend, taking victory in both races of a superbike double header at Race City Motorsport Park in Calgary. He also won in the pro sport bike class. Riding his back up Honda CBR1000RR, Szoke struggled slightly, early in Saturday’s race, giving up the lead on lap 3 to Andrew Nelson (Orion Motorsports / BMW Motorrad Canada), but then regaining it just 2 laps later. He lead from then on and crossed the finish line 3 seconds ahead of Suzuki GSX-R1000 rider Kevin Lacombe. Two-time Canadian superbike champion Francis Martin finished third aboard his radX HD / BMW Motorrad Canada BMW S1000RR to give the Bavarians their first podium finish in Canadian superbike competition.

Sunday’s race saw the Brantford native take the lead on the first lap and remain there unchallenged until the finish. Francis Martin finished second this time and 16-year-old rookie Cody Matechuk finished third, riding to the first podium finish of his national superbike career. Kevin Lacombe, who started the race second overall, crashed out on lap seven, allowing both Martin and Matechuk to move ahead of him in the championship standings. Szoke, now with 164 points, has opened up a 54-point lead in his bid for a fifth straight Parts Canada Superbike title. Martin, after his two podium finishes this weekend, moves into second overall with 110 points, and  Matechuk now sits third with 90.
